Characterizing random one-dimensional media with an embedded reflector via scattered waves

چکیده

We show in random matrix theory, microwave measurements, and computer simulations that the mean free path of a medium strength position an embedded reflector can be determined from radiation scattered by system. The are statistics transmission. transmission independent reflector. reflector's found, however, average dwell time for waves incident one side sample.

Reflection coefficient and localization length of waves in one-dimensional random media

We develop a novel and powerful method of exactly calculating various transport characteristics of waves in one-dimensional random media with (or without) coherent absorption or amplification. Using the method, we compute the probability densities of the reflectance and of the phase of the reflection coefficient, together with the localization length, of electromagnetic waves in sufficiently lo...

Transverse confinement of waves in three-dimensional random media.

We study the transmission of a tightly focused beam through a thick slab of three-dimensional disordered medium in the Anderson localized regime. We show that the transverse profile of the transmitted beam exhibits clear signatures of Anderson localization and that its mean square width provides a direct measure of the localization length. For a short incident pulse, the width is independent of...

Traveling waves in a one-dimensional random medium

We consider solutions of a scalar reaction-diffusion equation of the ignition type with a random, stationary and ergodic reaction rate. We show that solutions of the Cauchy problem spread with a deterministic rate in the long time limit. We also establish existence of generalized random traveling waves and of transition fronts in general heterogeneous media.

Localization in One Dimensional Random Media: a Scattering Theoretic Approach

We use scattering theoretic methods to prove exponential local-ization for random displacement models in one dimension. The operators we consider model both quantum and classical wave propagation. Our main tools are the reeection and transmission coeecients for compactly supported single site perturbations. We show that randomly displaced, non-reeectionless single sites lead to localization. 1....

Waves in Random Neural Media

Translationally invariant integro-differential equations are a common choice of model in neuroscience for describing the coarse-grained dynamics of cortical tissue. Here we analyse the propagation of travelling wavefronts in models of neural media that incorporate some form of modulation or randomness such that translational invariance is broken. We begin with a study of neural architectures in...
